Bar-Lev’s life is a story of adventure, resilience, and intellectual pursuit. Diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism, he struggled to find his place in the world during his youth. Growing up in a small village and attending a one-room schoolhouse, he was often misunderstood, with few friends and a knack for causing trouble in high school. Despite barely scraping by academically, he scored remarkably high on the ACT exams, a testament to his intellectual gifts. His education was largely self-directed, shaped by countless hours in libraries exploring topics of interest and devouring science fiction and fantasy novels.
This curiosity and creativity led him to write the first draft of *Carson’s Folly* as a short story while still in high school—a seed that would later grow into a fully realized novel.
After high school, Y.N. Bar-Lev drove a truck and earned a two-year college degree in Law Enforcement. Motivated by a sense of duty and adventure, he volunteered for the Army during the Vietnam War when many fled to Canada to avoid service. He excelled during training, demonstrating a rare ability to analyze seemingly unrelated data to form cogent summaries—a gift of Asperger’s that set him apart. Although offered a contract to train as a pilot, he chose instead to pursue intelligence work with the NSA, where he also became a small weapons expert, excelling with various firearms and competing in shooting events.
During his service with the NSA and the Army, Y.N. Bar-Lev undertook forward operations, gathering intelligence by being as close to the enemy as possible or even operating behind enemy lines. His unit was so effective and notorious that a bounty was placed on them for capture and interrogation. As a Combat Intelligence Analyst and Intelligence Briefer to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, he experienced the intensity of combat firsthand. He vividly recalls a sniper’s bullet cracking past his head just days into his Vietnam deployment—a stark reminder of the dangers he faced. After Vietnam, he continued Cold War intelligence work with the NSA in Europe and other theaters, where he learned to play soccer while living in Germany.
Following his military service, Y.N. Bar-Lev transitioned to law enforcement, working in various roles and rising to the rank of Captain before leaving the field to explore other opportunities. He later owned a Motorcycle and Van Conversion Business and furthered his education at the University of Michigan and LeTourneau University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business. His career spanned roles as an Investigator for the State of Texas, systems analyst, High-Tech Project Manager, and freelance High-Tech Consultant.
Outside his professional life, he pursued diverse passions, including flying, scuba diving, snow skiing, soccer, fast cars and motorcycles, firearms competitions, and hunting.
Now retired, Y.N. Bar-Lev lives with his wife in a picturesque mountaintop city. A devoted family man, he was married for 37 years and is the father of two daughters and the grandfather of 11 grandchildren. After being widowed, he remarried three years ago, gaining a son and daughter through his wife.
Bar-Lev is also an author with several books in progress:
– “God Entangled Consciousness”: An in-depth exploration of his theory that Quantum Mechanics provides a direct connection to God and Creation. The book is enriched with citations from researchers, scientists, and philosophers to support its thought-provoking ideas.
– “The Fringe”: A two-volume series that delves into fringe topics within Quantum Mechanics, including parapsychology, aliens, and other mysteries. This work combines Y.N. Bar-Lev’s interpretations with extensive citations from experts.
– An Unnamed Fictionalized Autobiography: A novelized account of his extraordinary experiences during the Vietnam War, Cold War, and beyond. The manuscript will undergo Pentagon review to redact still-classified information before publication.
With additional projects on the horizon, Y.N. Bar-Lev continues to explore, write, and share his unique perspective with the world.
